Hay un edificio abandonado en el Viejo San Juan cuya puerta fue pintada hace años con la forma y los colores de nuestra bandera nacional. Hoy en día, los colores brillantes de la bandera de Puerto Rico han sido cubiertos de negro, a manera de una declaración de indignación por la condición colonial que reduce al país al nivel de un derelicto, sin hogar ni medios de autosustento.

La imagen femenina es tomada de La Derelicta de Botticelli, una obra de arte no tan bien conocida, pero extraordinariamente expresiva. En PROMESA Falsa, la mujer viste los colores rojo y azul que otrora desplegara la bandera pintada en la puerta. La condición de dilapidación de la fachada se suma a la sensación de abandono y angustia expresada por la figura.

There is an abandoned building in Old San Juan whose door was painted years ago with the shape and colors of our national flag. Today, the bright colors of the flag of Puerto Rico have been covered in black as a statement of indignation by the people of a country whose colonial condition reduces it to the level of a derelict, without home and means of self support.

The derelict in the picture is from Botticelli’s painting of the same name, a not so well known but extraordinarily expressive work of art, In this painting she dons the red and blue colors stripped from the painted flag on the door. The dilapidated condition of the facade adds to the sense of distress neglect expressed by the figure.
